THE MISSION

The Teacher Assistant is expected to:

  • Assist in teaching and supervising children in child development center(s) to ensure appropriate skills, knowledge, and behaviors are learned.
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Distribute teaching materials, such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils, to students.
  • Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed.

A SNAPSHOT OF EXCITING THINGS YOU WILL DO:

  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
  • Prepare lesson outlines and plans in assigned subject areas and submit outlines to Lead Teacher for review.
  • Document all classrooms activities; monitor the progress of children continually.
  • Maintain accurate student records daily.
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Collaborate with other teaching professionals to develop educational programs.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Teach social skills to students.
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Deliver and drive assigned children to and from the Center.
  • Attend training sessions or professional meetings to develop or maintain professional knowledge.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher/Center Coordinator.

Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • High school Diploma or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the job description.
  • CDA Credential preferred.
  • Must enroll in a program that will lead to an associate, baccalaureate, or CDA that will be completed within two years of hire date.
  • Computer savvy, especially Microsoft products.
  • Must be able to work well on a team.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License is required.
  • The ability to meet the following physical requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
