Assistant Computer Specialist

THE MISSION

The ASSISTANT COMPUTER SPECIALIST is expected to:

To support the agency’s Information Technology operations by assisting with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of computer systems, network infrastructure, communication systems, and software applications across all GLEAMNS service counties. This position also provides technical support, user training, and contributes to the reliability, security, and performance of agency technology systems

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed in both office and field environments. Field work includes traveling to agency sites across the fourteen counties served by GLEAMNS to install, repair, or maintain technology systems. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, access tight or elevated spaces, and work around cabling, wiring, and electronic equipment. Work may require bending, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and transporting equipment between locations.

 

A SNAPSHOT OF EXCITING THINGS YOU WILL DO:

·         Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues involving agency computers, peripherals, software applications, and network systems across all GLEAMNS service counties, escalating complex issues to the Computer Specialist when necessary.

·         Assist in the design and development of computer systems, applications, and technology solutions based on user or system requirements.

·         Assist in documenting system configurations, procedures, and technical specifications.

·         Assist in testing, modifying, and implementing software or system changes under the direction of the Computer Specialist.

·         Assist with the management and maintenance of the agency’s email system.

·         Support backup systems, virus detection, file conversions, and data recovery processes.

·         Monitor and maintain hardware and software systems to ensure proper functionality and security.

·         Assist with the design, updates, and maintenance of the agency’s website.

·         Assist the Computer Specialist in conducting classroom and one on one training on computer systems and software applications.

·         Assist in developing training manuals, PowerPoints, videos, and other instructional materials.

·         Support the design, installation, and maintenance of communication systems within all GLEAMNS service counties.

·         Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Computer Specialist.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABLE:

·         High School Diploma required; Associate Degree with 3–5 years of experience or a Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Relevant experience and coursework include, but not limited to, computer payroll time reporting and processing, bookkeeping, computer accounting and all payroll deductions. 

·       A valid South Carolina driver’s license, enabling fieldwork and site visits as required.

·         Computer certifications are preferred, or a minimum of 3 years of experience working with network systems, computer hardware, software, and file servers. 

·         Must be knowledgeable of computers, laptops, tablets, printers, network switches, routers, wireless access points, file servers, backup devices, and related software applications.

·         Must be accustomed to using network cabling tools including cable testers, crimpers, punch‑down tools, and equipment used for installing, terminating, and routing Ethernet cabling.

·         Must be able to use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, drills, and other tools required for installing or servicing IT hardware and communication equipment. 

·         Possess strong interpersonal skills and exhibit cooperative, enthusiastic, dedicated, flexible, dependable and friendly attitude.

·         Must be able to work well on a team.
